Darwin surrounds covers areas from Durack through to Kakadu National Park.

The area is some of Australia's most beautiful landscape that ranges from red sand deserts to lush bushland and waterways. The natural and cultural heritage of Kakadu has been identified as a key element of Australia's great national landscapes. The national park is a timeless place with a landscape of exceptional beauty, great biodiversity and a wide variety of landforms habitats and wildlife. It is home to up to 68 mammals, more than 120 reptiles, 26 frog species and more than 2000 plants and over 10,000 species or insects. The area rapidly changes depending on the season experience the fury of the wet season with its monsoon storms and torrential rain or come in the dry season and experience a whole different scene with creek beds drying up and birds of prey circling any unfortunate creature to be stranded in the blistering heat.

With very little accommodation options in the area it is advised to book well in advance to avoid being stranded. There is a lovely caravan park and wilderness retreat available or budget hotel within close proximity to the national park.
