Mission Beach accommodation at its best - Licuala Lodge is an award winning Queenslander pole lodge, set in World Heritage Rainforest just 1.5 kms from fabulous Mission Beach, the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef.
This wonderful accommodation is situated in beautiful tropical rainforest, just a kilometer or so from the beach. By car the beach is just a two minute drive, or if you fancy walking it is a pleasant twenty minute stroll. The nearest shops and restaurants are even closer - just a fifteen minute walk or a minute by car.
At Licuala Lodge it is so peaceful and tranquil - no airport noise, no traffic noise .... ahhhh, bliss. Have a stroll around the tropical gardens and marvel at the array of bromeliads, gingers, heliconias and all sorts of other exotic tropical plants. There are also loads of games, DVDs including all the Fawlty Towers episodes, and books - you're welcome to swap paperback books here. If you really can't bear to be away from the computer, then fear not - Wireless Internet is here at Licuala Lodge.
The Lodge offers a choice of Queen Hotel rooms, which are separate to the main house, and a one Bedroom King Suite. All guest rooms and suites are built in that unique Queensland accommodation style, and have very comfortable bedding, ceiling fan and free-standing fan, a full private ensuite bathroom with hairdryer, fridge, alarm clock, a teddy bear or two and of course complimentary toiletries. The shower is a nice big size with a shower door - not one of those horrible shower curtains.
Licuala Lodge has a great swimming pool with a waterfall feature - it has just got to be the best in the area. Enjoy a decent swim or just dip your toes. Or just laze around the pool in the sun or in the shade and read a book, fall asleep. If you can get the attention of the head gardener he might even bring you an ice-cold drink. If you fancy a bit of exercise there are several walking tracks nearby.
The colourful grounds have a tropical feel to them - lots of native plants to attract scores of birds and butterflies, including the Ulysses. If you fancy a few cuttings from the garden just ask Mick (the head gardener, waiter, repair man etc..) - he will gladly oblige.
There is a large guest lounge - complete with TV, DVD player, book swap library, games (Trivial Pursuit, chess, backgammon etc..) and lots of DVDs, including the full set of the Yes Minister episodes.
The tour desk has brochures for all the tour operators in the area. Most all the tour operators (eg Sea Kayaking, White Water Rafting, Sky Diving) pick up and drop off for free at the Lodge
There are several resident cassowaries that visit the Lodge each day - so if you have not seen this magnificent and endangered bird in the wild - this is your big chance.
Mission Beach is blessed with several excellent restaurants which are all close by. If you are a bit tired of eating out then there are cooking facilities and a BBQ at your disposal.
So what else do you get for your money ?? Well, the yummiest brekky on offer in all Queensland (probably !!). If you really insist, you can have a go on our ride-on mower - about two hours should do the trick. Laundry facilities are avaiable, iron and ironing board (surely not on holiday ??) and of course Wireless Internet access.
It's all at Licuala Lodge - why stay anywhere else ??
Please note that the Lodge is NOT suitable for children under the age of ten.
