Whyalla is situated on the coast of South Australia. It is South Australia's second largest city, and is the first town located in the Eyre Peninsula. Whyalla is an industrial city, but also has some great beaches and recreational activities for tourists. While in Whyalla, you can launch yourself into other towns along Eyre's Peninsula, such as Port Lincoln and Port Pirie.
While in Whyalla take the opportunity to do some diving from Black Point. Enjoy the wonders contained within the ocean beneath Whyalla, including the breathtaking Giant Australian Cuttlefish. Hire a boat,or head out onto the pier and see what variety of fish you can catch. In the summer, you might even catch some delicious blue swimmer crabs. About 20 minutes outside Whyalla is the Point Lowly Lighthouse. From here you can experience stunning views of the Southern Flinders Ranges, and you may even catch a sight of dolphins in the water below.
If you can pull yourself away from the water, then take a trip to Whyalla Conservation Park. Have a picnic in the park, or go for a relaxing walk and be blown away by some of Australia's unique flora and wildlife. For something more indoor, check out the Maritime Museum, which gives fascinating insight into Australia's world war 2 naval history. After you have done sight seeing, enjoy one of Whyalla's numerous restaurant and cafe options.
Whyalla has accommodation option for all kinds of travellers. There are several budget hotel and motel options, all at very affordable prices. Corporate guests or those with higher budgets may enjoy some of the luxury hotels on offer, while families will love the numerous self contained apartments available.
